Music grades
At Hallman we give two kinds of grades for music class. The first reflects the mastery of skills or "Music Standards" grade. The Music Standards are: Fall - Rhythmic Literacy; Winter - Melodic Literacy; Spring - Expressive Elements and Harmony & Instruments.
The second grade is an effort grade which reflects effort, participation and behavior.
Every day in music students have the potential to earn 10 points for their music grade; five for behavior/participation and another five for understanding and demonstrating mastery of the skills being taught. If a student is not participating or making it difficult for others to learn due to behavior they can loose points for that day. If a student is struggling with a musical skill or concept that will also be reflected in their skill score for the day. If a student is absent, they do not receive the points for that day. In addition to the daily grades there are other factors that figure into a final grade including written evaluations and tests.
